The theme of your Expressions site is the general appearance of your site. You can select a theme that fits your personality, your professional identity, the goal or purpose of your website, etc. A wide variety of free themes are available to you in Expressions.

Your theme controls the way your content is displayed on your website, so it’s best to choose your theme before you add content to your site.

Adding a New Theme

  1. Login to your Expressions site and go to the Dashboard.
  2. Hover over Appearance and click on Themes.
  3. All of your installed themes will be listed here. The first theme shown, in the top left position on the page, is the active theme on your site.
  4. To search for a new theme, click Add New.
  5. You can use the Featured, Popular, and Latest areas to browse through themes. You can also use the Feature Filter to specify what features you are looking for in a theme. Lastly, you can use the Search Themes box to search for a theme.
  6. When you find a theme you like, hover over the theme and click on Details & Preview. From here, you will see a description of the theme, the current rating for the theme, and the number of ratings the theme has. Be wary of themes with less than three stars, or that have very few ratings. The higher the number of stars and ratings, the more reliable the theme is. When searching for themes, look for the term “Responsive”. Responsive means that the design of the theme adapts to different browser sizes — so that instead of needing a separate mobile site or mobile plugin, the content will be resized and rearranged to fit smaller screens and different devices.
  7. If you want to see how a theme will look on your site, click the Preview button.
  8. When you find a theme that you are ready to install, click Install. Please note, installing a theme does not activate it. Installing a theme will add that theme to your theme library.
  9. The next screen you are brought to will provide progress on the theme installation, and will state if the theme was installed successfully. From here, you can see a live preview of the theme on your site, activate the theme, or return to the theme installer.
  10. If you Activate the theme, it will replace the previous theme you had active on your site.
  11. If you do not activate the theme, the theme will be added to your theme library and can be activated at a later time.
