Theme Help

What is a theme?

Fundamentally, the WordPress Theme system is a way to “skin” your weblog. Yet, it is more than just a “skin.” Skinning your site implies that only the design is changed. WordPress Themes can provide much more control over the look and presentation of the material on your website – a Theme modifies the way the site is displayed.

How do I find new themes?

You can search for new themes by going to the Appearance tab in your Dashboard. From here, select Themes, then click on Add New.

Click on appearance and then themes to install new themes

If you have Multi-Site enabled, you’ll need to go to the Network Admin area to search for new themes.

Steps for multi site users to install themes. Go to Network Admin and then click on themes.

What does a theme control on my site?

A theme controls how your Expressions site looks. When changing themes, you’ll notice a few things that change, including:

  • Menu location(s)
  • Number of menus
  • Header areas
  • Appearance and location of widgets and sidebars
  • The number of sidebar and footer areas
  • Website colors

Certain themes allow you to customize every aspect of the theme – colors, menu locations, headers, etc. Other themes only allow you to customize a small number of theme features.
